Republicans and Democrats were tweeting at cross purposes on Tuesday for the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade.
The Supreme Court handed down a decision on the landmark case 40 years ago — on Jan, 22, 1973 — affirming a woman's right by law to have an abortion. But on Twitter, the war over abortion continues along strict party lines. The two sides were not talking to each other about the issue, but neither couched their opinions on the controversial topic.
Democrats are tweeting their commitment to keep fighting against those who would "roll back reproductive healthcare rights," as Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-Ore.) put it, while across the aisle, Republicans were tweeting about "millions of innocent lives lost" and reaffirming their commitment to protecting the "sanctity of human life."
Multiple Republicans quoted former President Reagan (R) in their tweets, while several Democrats pointed to a new Wall Street Journal/NBC poll released Monday evening that found 7 in 10 adults oppose overturning the Court's decision.
