Rep. Amash jabs McCain for 'wacko birds' comment

Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) jabbed Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) after McCain referred to Amash and two Senate Republicans as "wacko birds."

In an interview in The Huffington Post, McCain was asked whether Amash, and Sens. Rand Paul (Ky.) and Ted Cruz (Texas), are a "positive force" within the Republican party. McCain has reportedly "tangled" with the three lawmakers in the past.

"They were elected, nobody believes that there was a corrupt election, anything else," McCain said in the interview. "But I also think that when, you know, it's always the wacko birds on right and left that get the media megaphone."

Amash shot back on Twitter with a reference to McCain and eleven other Republican senators sitting down for a closed door meeting with President Obama on Wednesday.

Earlier in the week McCain and Paul exchanged barbs in response to Paul filibustering John Brennan's nomination for CIA director. McCain called Paul's filibuster "ridiculous." Paul responded that McCain and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who also criticized Paul's filibuster "think the whole world is a battlefield." Recently, McCain also criticized Cruz's questioning of now-Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel during Hagel's confirmation hearings.
