For Immediate Release April 05, 2013 Statement by the Press Secretary on the Visit of Prime Minister Erdogan of Turkey

On Thursday, May 16, President Obama will welcome Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey to the White House.  As friends and NATO allies, the United States and Turkey are partners in addressing a range of critical global and regional issues.  The President looks forward to discussing these issues with the Prime Minister, to include Syria, trade and economic cooperation, and countering terrorism.

The Prime Minister’s visit underscores the close friendship between the United States and Turkey and the strategic importance we place on broadening and strengthening our relationship moving forward.

For Immediate Release April 05, 2013 Statement by the Press Secretary on the Visit of the Amir of Qatar

President Obama will welcome to the White House the Amir of Qatar, His Highness Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, on Tuesday, April 23rd.  The United States and Qatar have a strong bilateral relationship, reflecting our close defense partnership, expanding commercial ties, and many other areas of cooperation. 

The United States is firmly committed to continuing to deepen our consultations with Qatar on the many important developments in the region.  The President looks forward to a broad discussion with the Amir on a range of mutual interests and regional issues to further strengthen our bilateral partnership.

For Immediate Release March 27, 2013 Statement by the Press Secretary on the visit of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore to the White House

President Obama will welcome Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong of Singapore to the White House on Tuesday, April 2. The United States and Singapore have strong economic and security ties, and our strategic partnership reflects a shared commitment to working together to ensure the continued peace, stability and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region. The President looks forward to discussing with Prime Minister Lee a broad range of strategic and economic issues affecting the Asia-Pacific region.

The Prime Minister’s visit underscores the strategic importance the President places on Asia and the value we place on our relationship with Singapore as a key partner.  The visit will provide an opportunity for the two leaders to discuss deepening our bilateral relationship, working together in the region’s multilateral institutions, including the East Asia Summit and the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, and continuing progress on the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

After many years of being prohibited from travel outside of Cuba, Yoani Sanchez, a respected advocate for the freedom of information and winner of the State Department’s International Women of Courage Award, is visiting the United States. Today we welcomed her to the White House to meet with White House staff, including Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Western Hemisphere Affairs Ricardo Zuniga, to discuss her efforts to promote increased respect for freedom of expression in Cuba.  The United States looks forward to the day when all Cubans will have the opportunity to express themselves in public without fear and we will continue to support policies that encourage the free flow of information to, from, and within Cuba.

For Immediate Release March 12, 2013 Statement by the Press Secretary on the Visit of Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny

President Obama will welcome Prime Minister (Taoiseach) Enda Kenny of Ireland to the White House on Tuesday, March 19.  The United States and Ireland share a strong bilateral partnership, enduring people-to-people ties, and a commitment to advancing peace, security and prosperity in the world.  In the morning, the President will meet with the Taoiseach in the Oval Office, and subsequently he will attend the traditional St. Patrick’s Day lunch at the U.S. Capitol.  In the evening, the President and the First Lady will host a reception to celebrate their fifth St. Patrick’s Day at the White House.  During the reception, the President and Kenny will participate in the annual Shamrock ceremony started under President Truman.

The President will also greet First Minister Peter Robinson and Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness of Northern Ireland at the White House on March 19 to discuss their progress toward meeting their shared commitment to a peaceful and prosperous future for the people of Northern Ireland.
