Marriage Equality sponsor Sen. Heather Steans (D)With a vote of 9-5, the Illinois Senate Executive Committee just approved the marriage equality bill (Senate Bill 110), just as it had during the lame duck session. Senate President John Cullerton (D) hopes to have the whole chamber vote on the bill on Valentine’s Day next week. With Democratic super-majorities in both chambers, the legislation is expected to advance quite quickly.
