Talk:Reconquista

(Difference between revisions)

A google search on "Rechritianization" yields only this article. This must be a spelling mistake or a spoof.--AvengingAngel 17:07, 15 May 2007 (EDT)

uh, I get 3,020,000 google hits searching for Reconquista. --Tim (CPAdmin1)talk 17:09, 15 May 2007 (EDT) not saying that Reconquista is a spoof, but that Rechritianization is not a bona fide word!--AvengingAngel 17:22, 15 May 2007 (EDT)

I have a theory....that the disparity in growth rates of Britain and Spain starting in the 16th century through to the world wars was caused by the Reconquista, especially the fanaticism of Isobel. When the riches of the New World started to roll in, Spain had no middle class who knew what to do with it. A simplification I know....

Maybe they should have disenchristianized the place. AlanE 21:32, 16 May 2007 (EDT)

A simplification but valid. Moreover, the distribution of conquered land among Christian nobles meant a kind of bastard feudalism that lasted into the late nineteenth century and was one of the causes of the various Spanish civil wars of the last two hundred years.
